Prof. Vishwanath Sable

Dean, Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai

(G.D. Art, Dip Art Ed. M.F.A.)

First a teacher then a painter could be an apt mention of Prof Sabale. Tracing his trajectory from a small village boy to the dean of school of art, one can call him 'son of five elements' and this is revealed in his plethora of works. Filled with his vivid strokes, the canvas unfolds his world of rocks and mountains, both dreamy and surrealistic. After completing formal education in art, he joined Sir J. J. School of Art at a teacher in 2001 and was conferred as a professor in 2005. Followed to this, in 2011 he was honored with the honorable designation as Dean of School of Art. Not letting his identity as a small village, self made and humane person, Prof Sabale stayed connected with problems associated with vernacular students of the art school. His genuine concern became his everlasting energy to bring in as many opportunities possible to the school for enhancement of art education to reach in all levels, including teachers, students and alumni. Series of workshops by national and international artists, commercial assignments for students by the corporates and government organizations, beautification of cities, talks and discussions by stalwarts, introduction of formal training to write projects related to art, art camps in and outside the campus are just a few activities he initiated. The next stage of education for Art and Craft by means of research and practical based Masters, restoration of masters' works of art with NRLC, 1st ever Multi-Medium National Art Camp, Korea Biennale and co-hosting 60th National Exhibition of Lalit Kala Akademi are his exclusive contributions. A passionate traveler in the art world knows the values of documentation as well, and at every step he has profoundly done digital documentation for the next generation to understand this 'present' which will be 'history' then.
